Bracing Design Manual

All houses require bracing against lateral forces developing due to wind pressures and earthquake. Due to current design trends (open plan spaces, wider window openings etc), the role of bracing becomes more critical. This is important for houses built in all wind zones in New Zealand.

Bracing demand as required by NZS 3604 can easily be achieved by using James Hardie fibre cement sheets and Linea Weatherboards fixed to timber framing. By using James Hardie's product range to achieve bracing, demand reduces the need of achieving bracing by using other materials and saves money.

The James Hardie bracing manual describes how to install James Hardie products to achieve the necessary bracing requirements in timber framed houses.

With the introduction of cavities and considering the new code requirements, James Hardie products are still suitable to achieve bracing values required for homes within the scope of NZS 3604.

External Sheet Cladding:

In addition to above mentioned products James Hardie's RABTM Board can also be used to achieve structural bracings. RAB Board achieves bracing demands regardless of any cladding or lining material being used.
