Heather's modern farmhouse in Taupō is a tribute to contemporary style and effortless living, made possible with Stria™ Cladding by James Hardie. This is the second home Heather has built. After a positive experience 12 years ago, she jumped at the chance to build again, this time opting for a house and land package with Generation Homes. The location was ideal - nestled in a new development with views of Mt Tauhara, and close (but not too close) to a shopping centre, gym and cafés.

Designed with a pavilion-style layout, the home balances functionality with aesthetic appeal. The separate wings for living and sleeping areas provide a sense of openness while ensuring privacy.

“It’s a lovely use of the footprint,” says Heather. “You can welcome people in while keeping your sleeping area separate from your entertaining space.”

“The Stria™ Cladding product is very low maintenance and, as I have a very busy job and lifestyle, I needed something that only requires a light touch. The light colouring of the Stria™ Cladding creates a beautiful contrast to the dark fencing and adds a bit of drama. The vertical lines draw the eye up to the grandeur of the raked roofing.”

“I love the high, gabled ceilings that make all the spaces feel open and airy. The drama is not left behind in the media room – black walls and ceilings create a total cinema experience.”

However, it’s in the outdoor areas that Heather, a funeral director, is truly able to chill out and refresh.

“The outdoor space is private and will be a lovely retreat once more greenery grows and the landscaping is complete. Having a quiet and green oasis to relax in after work and in the weekends is a must. The patio decking is an extension of the living room and flows effortlessly from one area to the other. The grounds are very low maintenance, which is in keeping with the style of the build.”
